Central Carolina SKYWARN® is the designee of the Raleigh NWS that serves the following 18 counties: Chatham, Durham, Edgecombe, Franklin, Granville, Halifax, Harnett, Johnston, Lee, Nash, Orange, Person, Sampson, Vance, Wake, Warren, Wayne, and Wilson. Central Carolina SKYWARN® operates under the specific direction of the National Weather Service.
We serve as the only official Skywarn agency for the Charlotte Region and Western Piedmont of NC, reporting to the GSP NWS office in Greer, SC. We are endorsed by North Carolina ARES and North Carolina ARRL, as well as local clubs and groups. We support our local Skywarn Spotters with a 8PM nightly weather net on our primary frequency though the Piedmont Spotter Group. Our goal is to collect reports of severe weather and submit them to the National Weather Service office in Greer, SC.
Under the auspices and support of both the Clay County and Cherokee County Amateur Radio Emergency Service, Southwest Carolina SKYWARN® is an Amateur Radio Emergency Network comprised of licensed Amateur Radio Operators Clay, Cherokee and surrounding counties.
